The Chicago Cubs will continue their seven-game West Coast road trip Monday when they visit the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.

The Cubs (33-26, first in NL Central) are coming off a 4-3 win at the San Francisco Giants on Sunday to avoid a four-game sweep by the NL West leaders.

Patrick Wisdom hit two home runs and drove in three runs in the victory to give him seven homers in 13 games this season. Kyle Hendricks allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to win his fifth straight start. It wasn’t all good news for the Cubs as shortstop Javier Baez left the game early with right thumb soreness.

The Padres (36-25, second in NL West) split a four-game home series against the NL East-leading New York Mets by dropping the final two games. San Diego fell 4-0 and 6-2 this weekend.

Yu Darvish and Zach Davies will each make their first start against their former team since being traded last December. Davies is expected to start Game 2 of the series for the Cubs, while Darvish is slated for the series finale.

Catcher Victor Caratini, who was also part of the trade, hit a solo home run in San Diego’s 4-3 loss to the Cubs on June 1 and was 1-for-8 in the series at Wrigley Field.

Season Series

The Cubs swept the Padres in a three-game home series that started on Memorial Day. Chicago outscored San Diego 17-6 in the series and did not allow more than three runs in a single game.
