The Rockford IceHogs continued their offseason transactions by re-signing one of their top scorers.

Chris Wilkie, 24, has agreed to terms on an AHL contract that keeps him with the Chicago Blackhawks’ affiliate for the upcoming 2021-22 campaign. Wilkie was among the team’s top scorers during the shortened season, scoring eight goals in 22 games and totaling 14 points. He also landed in a league-wide tie with three shorthanded goals in his first AHL stint.

In a press release from the IceHogs, head coach Derek King discussed Wilkie’s love for the game and how he reminds him of Dylan McLaughlin. King explained that the staff knows Wilkie can score with the puck on his stick, they’re just eager to see what his game turn into as he continues developing away from the puck.

In the same press release, Wilkie expressed his excitement for a return to Rockford. Prior to joining the AHL, the Nebraska native played college hockey at Colorado College and the University of North Dakota.
