Chicago Bulls’ General Manager Marc Eversley has joined Canada Basketball’s Board of Directors. Eversley has been elected a Class A Director and will join Humza Teherany and Bart Yabsley, who were nominated as Class B Directors.
“On behalf of our Board of Directors, I’d like to welcome Marc, Humza, and Bart to the Canada Basketball team,” said Brian Cooper, Chair, Canada Basketball Board of Directors. “Each brings with them experience, expertise, and a passion for the game of basketball that will undoubtedly continue to elevate our organization, both on and off the court.”
Eversley, a native of Brampton, Ontario, is entering his second season as Bulls’ General Manager. Before that, Eversley accumulated 14 years of experience working in various front offices across the NBA.
An integral part of Eversley’s development as a basketball executive came from his time at Nike Canada, where he worked for six years and developed relationships with the likes of Steve Nash and Vince Carter. Eversley was even a member of Carter’s wedding party and is godfather to Carter’s daughter.
“When I was at Nike Canada, running sports marketing for all their properties, basketball was kind of an up and coming thing that was kind of gimmicky,” Eversley said then. “But we were committed to pounding the rock per se, and really trying to grow the game of basketball… I think you’re starting to see the benefits of that now with the number of Canadians that are playing in the NBA.”
Canada Basketball is preparing to host and compete in a qualifying tournament for the upcoming Tokyo Games. The qualifying tournament is set to begin on June 29.
