The Rockford IceHogs‘ offseason transactions continued on Wednesday as they inked another one of their players for the upcoming year.
The Chicago Blackhawks’ affiliate re-signed defenseman Dmitri Osipov to an AHL contract that brings him back for the 2021-22 campaign.
Osipov, 24, led the IceHogs with 46 hits last season and was awarded the team’s Heavy Hitter honor. Not only was his physical presence felt, but his improvement in other aspects of the game were noticed. In 22 games, he tallied a pair of goals behind his rocket of a shot and earned four helpers.
In a press release from the team, head coach Derek King explained that Osipov brings a sense of comfort to the other players when he’s on the ice. King noted his improvements away from the puck, and said that he’s looking for Osipov to grab more of a leadership role in the upcoming season.
