The Chicago Bears have a crowded quarterback room. It’s tough to see a situation where they carry three QBs into the season. The team just signed Andy Dalton to a one-year, $10 million deal this offseason. However, the caveat is that they traded up in the draft to select Justin Fields.
Head coach Matt Nagy hasn’t been shy about declaring Dalton the starter to this point. Although, he did mention that Fields would be QB2. Nevertheless, that leaves 2018 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles as the odd man out. Last season, Foles saw himself battling Mitchell Trubisky for QB1 duties and ultimately did get the nod in Week 4. That lasted until he suffered a mid-season injury and Trubisky took the starting job back. Now, Foles finds himself relegated to QB3 behind Dalton and Fields.
In an ideal world, the Bears would love to unload Foles and his contract onto a team via trade. The only problem? There isn’t much of a market for him right now. However, it only takes one team to bite. On Tuesday reports indicated that there actually may be a team interested, and quite frankly that team makes the most sense.
J-E-T-S. Jets, Jets, Jet. Yes, the AFC East team would be perfect match for the Bears. As currently listed, the Jets don’t have much of an option behind the second overall pick, QB Zach Wilson.
- QB, James Morgan
- QB, Mike White
For this reason, Nick Foles would be an ideal fit for the Jets. In fact, he’d be the perfect mentor for Wilson while providing a veteran backup for the roster. His personality and experience would fit in well with New York’s young roster.
From a Bears perspective, Ryan Pace and co. should not expect much of a return for a Foles in a trade, whether a deal were to occur with the Jets or any other team. The expectation on a reasonable return would be a conditional sixth- or seventh-round pick.
Only time will tell if or when a trade involving Nick Foles will come to fruition. This development should make for an interesting next few months leading up the start of the 2021 season.
