The Chicago Bulls received the 8th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery. However, due to the Nikola Vucevic trade back at the trade deadline, the pick conveys to the Orlando Magic.
Coming into the draft lottery, the Bulls had a 20.2% chance of moving into the top four of the draft and a 4.5% chance of obtaining the first overall pick. The Bulls were represented by General Manager Marc Eversley, who hoped to bring home a top-4 pick this year.
If the pick did not go into the top four, it would go to the Magic. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened.
Without a first round pick in this upcoming draft, it looks like the Bulls will look to build their team through free agency, which is set to begin on August 2. It is still entirely possible that both EVP Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley will look into trading back into the first round to add more young pieces to the existing core.
While this isn’t exactly the outcome Bulls fans were hoping for, there are still brighter days ahead. The All-Star duo of Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic come back next year looking to build more chemistry. Additionally, if the Bulls play free agency right, there is no reason the Bulls aren’t in the playoffs next year.
The NBA Draft takes place on July 29 at 7:30 PM CDT on ESPN.
