The White Sox injury woes continue to pile up. Ahead of a two-game series in Pittsburgh, the White Sox have placed Adam Engel on the ten-day injured list due to a strained right hamstring.
In a corresponsing move, the club recalled outfielder Luis Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte. Gonzalez owns a .195/.302/.341 slash line with three home runs and 11 RBIs over 24 games with the Knights so far in 2021.
Engel dealing with another right hamstring ailment is a concerning development considering that the same injury sidelined him near the end of Spring Training. Setbacks in his rehab prevented Engel from appearing in a contest for the White Sox until June 6. Engel posted a .241/.313/.552 slash line with three home runs and four RBIs across 32 plate appearances in just ten games since initially returning to the Major League club.
Engel heading to the injured list further slims down an already depleted outfield as Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Billy Hamilton, and Adam Eaton are all on the shelf. Expect the White Sox to utilize Jake Lamb in the outfield more frequently for the time being as the front office identifies possible reinforcements on the trade market with the deadline just over a month away.
