The Cubs were very busy on Monday ahead of their three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. Early in the day, the Cubs signed LHP Tony Cingrani to a minor-league deal. Cingrani was with the Lexington Legends of the Atlantic League before signing.

Cingrani is a local product to the city of Chicago. The pitcher was born in Evergreen Park and attended Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox. He also attended South Suburban College in JUCO before attending Rice University in Texas.

Cingrani last pitched in the majors in 2018 with the Dodgers. That season he appeared in 30 games, recording a 1-2 record with 4.76 ERA, 36 strikeouts, and 11 holds in 22.2 innings. In 2019, he split time between High-A and Triple-A.

Roster Moves

In addition to signing Cingrani, the Cubs promoted RHP Trevor Megill from Triple-A Iowa. In return, the Cubs sent RHP Tommy Nance to Triple-A.

Nance has overall been quite good for the Cubs, but has struggled of late as indicated in the above tweet. However, he pitched pretty well on Sunday, pitching three innings and gave up one run while striking out five. For the season, Nance is 1-0 with a 3.20 ERA, 21 strikeouts, and four holds in 19.2 innings.

Megill showed some flash for the Cubs before he was injured. He’s only pitched three innings in four games for the Cubs this season. However, he has struck out two, walked three, and given up three hits, but has a perfect 0.00 ERA. The Cubs surely want to see more of Megill and what better time than now with Nance beginning to struggle.

The Cubs and Brewers begin their three-game set in Milwaukee at 7:10 PM CDT on Monday. Kyle Hendricks faces off with Freddy Peralta in the series opener.
