Notre Dame forwards Landon Slaggert and Sasha Pastujov will play for the United States national team at the World Junior Summer Showcase.
Team USA’s 44-man roster will be split into two squads and compete against Finland and Sweden. The 11-game tournament serves as an evaluation for players trying to make their national team for the World Junior Championship. The showcase will be July 24-31 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.
Slaggert is one of seven players from Team USA’s 2021 World Juniors gold-medal team returning. The Chicago Blackhawks prospect scored 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) in 25 games during his freshman season at Notre Dame.
Slaggert will be joined at the showcase by fellow Chicago prospects Drew Commesso, a Boston University goalie, and Wyatt Kaiser, a Minnesota Duluth defenseman.
Pastujov led Team USA in goals (five), assists (five) and points (eight) in five games at the under-18 World Juniors. The incoming freshman also led the U.S. National U18 Team in all three major scoring categories (30 goals, 35 assists, 65 points) in 41 games. NHL Central Scouting ranked him No. 18 among North American skaters for the 2021 NHL Draft.
At last year’s tournament, Slaggert became the seventh Notre Dame player to medal at World Juniors. He will look to join Kyle Palmieri as the only Irish player to win two medals. Palmieri won gold in 2010 and bronze in 2011. Notre Dame has never had two players win a medal at the same World Juniors tournament.
