The past few weeks have been quite frustrating for the Chicago White Sox and their fans, but they could get a shot in the arm sooner than later from a missing piece.

It’s no secret that Eloy Jimenez is one of the most beloved White Sox players. His love for the game and life itself has made him a fan favorite. His unfortunate injury during Spring Training meant he’d be out for virtually the entire season. However, as time has passed, Jimenez has made progress toward a return which he has shared on his Instagram.

His pectoral tendon injury was expected to set him back five-to-six months, and the resumption of baseball activities was all dependent on his recovery. However, Jimenez shared news that he’s almost back in the game.

As the White Sox continue to struggle with scoring runs and winning games, it’s easy to overlook his social media post. Just because he says he’s “close” doesn’t mean he’s coming back early. That’s the realistic point of view. The south side point of view is that this team is dying for help offensively and dreams of a fully healthy lineup continue to be had.

Jimenez is still likely looking at an end of season return in 2021, but perhaps his positivity and hunger to get back on the team can spark the rest of the active players to leap out of this slump. Motivation from someone like Jimenez, direct or not, won’t make anyone throw harder, steal more bases, or hit more home runs, but what it might do is change the mindset of the White Sox as they approach the All-Star Break.

Jimenez will continue his rehab and the organization will continue to be careful with him along the way. However, as the club gets ready for a pair of series against division foes, any sort of pick-me-up would surely benefit the first-place White Sox.
