According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Chicago White Sox are interested in shortstop Trevor Story.

Story, 28, has been with the Colorado Rockies since reaching the Majors in 2016 at the age of 23. The two-time All-Star has struggled a bit this season compared to his career norms, hitting .256 with 11 home runs and 41 RBIs in 72 games played thus far.

Reports surfaced over the holiday weekend that the White Sox were interested in adding Story to their injury-riddled roster. However, according to Nightengale, the Rockies are not looking to move their shortstop prior to the All-Star break. Story is set to appear in the 2021 Home Run Derby in front of his current home crowd at Coors Field, despite not being named to the NL All-Star roster.

Story, who has played his entire career at shortstop, would be some to be an odd fit to some for a White Sox roster that already includes Tim Anderson. The White Sox would reportedly consider moving Story over to second base to fill the hole left in the wake of Nick Madrigal’s season-ending injury. Story has never appeared at second during his six seasons in the big leagues, but should be able to handle the hypothetical adjustment well should the move come to fruition.

While rumors and reports are just that, let’s imagine what this kind of talent would look like in a Chicago White Sox lineup come September when sluggers Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert should* both return to the south side. Oh, and these are just from the past weekend alone.

It never hurts to dream. However, this is certainly something White Sox fans can keep an eye on as the July 31 deadline approaches.
