The MLB Futures Game will showcase the best minor league prospects, including three from Chicago, on Sunday at Coors Field in Denver.
Outfielder Brennen Davis and right-handed relief pitcher Manuel Rodriguez will represent the Chicago Cubs on the National League team. Davis, 21, is at Double-A Tennessee and Rodriguez, 24, is at Triple-A.
Davis had a .321/.406/.607 slash line with two home runs, two doubles and five RBIs in eight games at High-A South Bend before his promotion to Double-A. He has a .278/.381/.481 slash line with four homers, 10 doubles and 14 RBIs in 31 games at Tennessee.
Rodriguez posted a 2.03 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with four saves in 13 games at Tennessee before his promotion to Triple-A. He has three strikeouts and allowed zero runs with one save in three outings at Iowa.
The Chicago White Sox have one representative in outfielder Yoelqui Cespedes on the American League roster. The 23-year-old Cespedes is at High-A Winston Salem. He’s the half brother of free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, a two-time All-Star and Home Run Derby champion.
The younger Cespedes has a .229/.308/.486 slash line with four homers, six doubles, and seven RBI’s in 17 games this season.
The White Sox expected to have two players at the prospect showcase, but they promoted third baseman Jake Burger one week ago from Triple-A Charlotte.
