The Chicago Bulls are once again being linked to New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball. Lonzo is set to hit restricted free agency. News broke that the Pelicans are unlikely to match a significant offer sheet. The Bulls have been linked to Lonzo Ball since last year’s NBA Trade Deadline. It was reported that Chicago tried to trade Lauri Markkanen to New Orleans to acquire the oldest Ball brother.
Lonzo Ball is an ideal fit next to Chicago Bulls All-Stars Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic. The Chicago Bulls would most likely have to rid themselves of Thad Young’s contract, as well as Tomas Satoransky’s contract. Both of those deals are non-guaranteed for the 2021-22 NBA Season.
The Chicago Bulls have already been active today as the came to terms with 2020 second-round pick Marco Simonovic. Chicago Bulls EVP of Basketball Operations Artūras Karnišovas and General Manger Marc Eversley are looking to make major moves this offseason. Adding a player of Lonzo Ball’s caliber to this squad could be the move that helps the Chicago Bulls break their playoff drought.
Lonzo Ball has improved every year since he’s entered the NBA. Last year, Ball averaged 14.6 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 5.7 APG. Lonzo did this while shooting 41% from the field and 37% from downtown. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. Maybe the Chicago Bulls will finally get the point guard they’re in desperate need of in Lonzo Ball.
