The Notre Dame football program added its first top-100 prospect to its 2022 class Monday when four-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed committed to the Irish.

Sneed (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) is the eighth-ranked linebacker in the country and No. 70 overall recruit, according to 247Sports’ composite ranking.

The Hilton Head Island, South Carolina native chose Notre Dame over Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. The Ducks and Irish became the main contenders, with Notre Dame coming out on top. Despite being the No. 2 overall recruit in South Carolina, Sneed did not receive an offer from Clemson.

Sneed is one of three linebacker commits in Notre Dame’s 18-man class, joining Niuafe Tuihalamaka of California and Josh Burnham of Michigan.

Sneed’s commitment lifts Notre Dame’s 2022 class to No. 2 in the country, only behind Ohio State.

247Sports Scouting Report on Sneed

Recruiting insider Clint Brewster: Sneed is a rocked-up outside linebacker/edge player with long arms and and a good looking frame. Sneed played his junior season with his hand down as a defensive end but has more of an outside linebacker body type. Sneed has a relentless motor and superior physicality on the field. He has elite open-field abilities to make plays in space and is extremely hard to block. Sneed possesses great play-strength and knock back tackling power. He’s got raw physical tools with upside potential as a defensive prospect. Sneed’s explosive first step and downfield trigger put him in position to make plays in the backfield. Excellent linear speed to chase down the ball and showed consistent production throughout his high school career. Will set the tone of the game with his physicality.
