The Bears offseason rolls on as we get closer to the 2021 NFL season every day. Last week we saw the return of Bears’ defensive lineman Eddie Goldman. He is back in Chicago training and preparing for the Bears training camp, which is right around the corner. His workouts are continuing in impressive fashion as well, as you can see from the video below.

The rigorous training Eddie Goldman is going through is a fantastic sign of things to come. He looks like he’s getting back in NFL season shape and that is a welcome addition to the Bears’ defense. Hopefully, Goldman returns to his 2017 status as a dominant inside lineman. The Bears’ defense was already a top-ten unit in 2017 when Goldman had his best year, at the time, before the addition of Khalil Mack. Goldman was dominant again in 2018 in spite of a dip in his quarterback hits and total tackles. Bringing Mack, Goldman, and Akiem Hicks back in 2021 should be the spark to reignite the Monsters of the Midway.

Justin Fields

Head coach Matt Nagy has already stated that Andy Dalton would be the Bears’ starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Rams. He’s since doubled down on those comments and that is not surprising. Justin Fields has been putting in some hard work this offseason, however. He seems very hungry to earn the starting role and has been training alongside Deshaun Watson.

Allen Robinson

The deadline for the Bears and wide receiver Allen Robinson to agree on a long-term extension is Thursday, July 15. As we inch closer to that date, it doesn’t appear that anything will change. Ian Rapoport continued to express his doubt that Robinson will sign an extension and will indeed play on the franchise tag in 2021.

The Chicago Bears are desperate for their stars to produce this year. After back-to-back 8-8 seasons, the 2021 campaign will be the ultimate test of fortitude for this team. They can’t afford to sink any lower than they were before the hiring of Matt Nagy. Under John Fox’s control, the Bears went 14-34 (.292 winning percentage). They are in danger of falling to that level of incompetence again if they cannot compete in 2021.

Matt Nagy has coached the Bears to a 28-20 record in three seasons as head coach. His early success has led to unparalleled expectations and this Bears offseason is crucial in determining how the team will perform on the field in 2021. If he wants to remain the head coach in Chicago, the Bears need to find their way into the playoffs… but this time win when they get there.
