The Rockford IceHogs announced another player signing on Wednesday afternoon, this time bringing back an important piece to the leadership group.
The 13th captain in Rockford history, Garrett Mitchell, has agreed to an AHL contract for the 2021-22 season, which will keep him within the Chicago Blackhawks‘ organization.
Mitchell played in 29 of the IceHogs’ 32 games during the shortened campaign last season. He recorded five points and finished second on the club in hits with 35. Mitchell is a physical player who serves as an emotional leader for the young skaters coming up in the American League. His services are also valuable to the coaching staff in Rockford.
Head coach Derek King expressed his gratitude for Mitchell, explaining that having a guy like him on the ice and in the locker room is a huge help for not just the staff, but the players as well.
