If there was something that Cubs fans needed to see, it’s that Cubs No. 5 prospect and 2020 first-round pick Ed Howard is off to a great start in the month of July with Low-A Myrtle Beach. Howard, the hometown Chicago kid, is giving Cubs fans some wholesome news that is needed after seeing Kris Bryant berated with questions about his future while playing left field in the 2021 All-Star Game.
In eight games in the month of July, Howard is hitting .324 including a 3-for-5 day capped off by a line drive home run. The missile is Howard’s second of 2021 and first at home in Myrtle Beach. He is hitting .220 on the season with two home runs, three doubles, and a triple. Howard is only 19 years old and the tools are starting to pop. If you ever need a pick-me-up, just search videos of Ed Howard on Twitter and you’ll be feeling ready for the Cubs’ future.
With every highlight comes another exciting moment for Cubs fans when looking to the future. Admittedly, this is the most excited fans have been about the Cubs’ minor league system since pre-2015. At that time, it was names like Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, and Kyle Schwarber igniting excitement in Cubs fan’s heads. Now, names such as Howard, Brennen Davis, and Ryan Jensen, to name a few, are doing the same in 2021.
