The Chicago Fire enter Saturday’s match against the Nashville Soccer Club in high spirits. For the first time this season, the Fire are on a winning streak. Their last two matches have resulted in victories over Atlanta United (3-0) and Orlando City (3-1). Add on the fact that the game before those two wins was a 3-3 draw against Philadelphia, and the Fire are on somewhat of a scoring spree. The question now: how will the Fire hold up against a strong Nashville team on the road?

The Second City Soccer crew takes a look at everything you need to know for the upcoming match this weekend.

Matchup

Chicago Fire: 3-2-7 (11 pts.); -5 GD; 12th in the Eastern Conference

Nashville SC: 4-7-1 (19 pts.); 3 GD; 5th in the Eastern Conference

  • Nashville has only lost once on the season, and that defeat came almost a month ago when they fell to the New York Red Bulls by a score of 2-0 on June 18. As it stands, Nashville has the fewest losses in the Eastern Conference.
  • Still, a majority of Nashville’s matches have ended in draws. They are tied with Atlanta United for the most draws in all of MLS.

Players to Watch

Chicago Fire: Álvaro Medrán

Medrán has been on fire (no pun intended) as of late for Chicago. He has five assists over the last three games which have skyrocketed him to the team lead. It also means he is tied for third in assists in all of Major League Soccer. If Medrán can continue his expert facilitation within the Fire’s new formation they have been employing the past three games and will continue to employ tonight, the Fire have a chance to continue their recent scoring prowess.

Nashville SC: Hany Mukhtar

Mukhtar, Nashville’s leading scorer, is tied for 14th in all of MLS for goals scored with four. He also has two assists, and he has accumulated these stats in only 844 minutes over 11 matches played and just nine starts. Mukhtar will be dangerous offensively for Nashville, and the Fire should have their hands full with him.

Tonight’s match will take place at 7:30 PM CT at Nissan Stadium in Music City. You can watch on WGN-TV or on the Chicago Fire website if you are within the designated market area. Vamos Fire.
