The Chicago Blackhawks selected Colton Dach of the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades with the No. 62 overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday.

Dach scored 20 points (11 goals, nine assists) in 20 games for Saskatoon this past season after scoring 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 62 games in his first WHL season. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward is the younger brother of Kirby Dach, who was selected third overall by Chicago in 2019.

Colton, a left-handed shot, is ranked No. 19 on NHL’s Central Scouting Rankings among North American skaters. He is the first player to be selected No. 62 in Blackhawks history.

Dach is the second player from the WHL’s Eastern Division to be selected this year by the Blackhawks, following first-round defenseman Nolan Allan of Prince Albert.

Scouting report

EliteProspects: Dach’s one of the better shooters in the draft from a mechanical standpoint. He pushes hands in front of body, lifts the top arm elbow to his shoulder or higher, and creates distance between his feet despite skating limitations to generate downward force. He uses his condor-like wingspan to reach around sticks (hook pass) or pull the puck in and pass under them (slip pass).
