The Chicago Blackhawks selected Ethan Del Mastro of the OHL Mississauga with the No. 105 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday. Chicago acquired the pick to select Del Mastro from the Vancouver Canucks in the Madison Bowey trade.
Del Mastro did not play this past season in the OHL because the League did not have a season because of COVID-19 protocols in Ontario. The 6-foot-4, 209-pound defenseman had two assists in seven games to help Canada win gold at the under-18 World Championship. He played on Canada’s gold-medal winning team with Chicago first-round left-handed defenseman Nolan Allan.
Del Mastro, a left-handed shot, had seven assists in 58 games during the 2019-20 OHL season. He was the No. 57-ranked North American skater by NHL Central Scouting prior to this year’s draft.
Del Mastro is the second player in Blackhawks history to be selected at No. 105, joining Michal Teply (2019).
