The Chicago Cubs conclude their seven-game homestand at Wrigley Field, with a four-game set against the Cincinnati Reds starting Monday.

The Cubs (49-51, fourth in NL Central) opened the homestand with a weekend series win against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who hold the worst record in the MLB. Chicago won 8-3, lost 7-3, then earned the series victory with a 5-1 win Sunday. Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and David Bote each hit a home run on Sunday afternoon. It was Bote’s first game back after he dislocated his left shoulder while running the bases against the Reds on May 30 at Wrigley Field.

The Reds (51-48, second in NL Central) are coming off a pivotal home series win against a division foe in the St. Louis Cardinals. Cincinnati took the first two games of the series 6-5 and 5-3 before a 10-6 loss in the series finale Sunday. The series victory puts the Reds six-and-half games back of first-place Milwaukee in the division and two-and-half games in front of the Cardinals. The Reds are also five-and-half games back of the San Diego Padres for the NL’s second wild-card spot.

The Reds-Cubs series leads into the MLB’s trade deadline (3 p.m. CDT Friday) as both teams could look to change their respective rosters. Cincinnati could add a player to help its push to a division title, while the Cubs are trying to sell off players to restock their farm system.
