The Chicago Cubs continued cleaning house on Friday afternoon shipping All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel to the crosstown Chicago White Sox.

Craig Kimbrel has been one of the most dominant closers in all of baseball this season with 23 saves and a 0.49 ERA. Kimbrel will join his former teammate Ryan Tepera, who was traded cross town earlier this week.

In return, the Chicago Cubs received second baseman Nick Madrigal and right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer.

Nick Madrigal was the fourth pick in the 2018 MLB draft and will miss the rest of the 2021 season with a hamstring injury. Madrigal is known for his high contact rate, hitting .317 in his 303 career MLB at-bats. The former first-round pick slashed .305/.349/.425 in 54 games this season. In addition, he had two home runs, ten doubles, and 21 RBIs.

Codi Heuer was a sixth-round pick in the 2018 MLB draft and has fared decently in his short tenure in the big leagues posting a career 3.75 ERA. Heuer has struggled this season, but he was very good in the shortened 2020 season.

Odds are this is not the last move of the day for Jed Hoyer, we will have all the trades for you here at On Tap Sports Net as they happen.
