Notre Dame added another four-star wide receiver of the 2022 recruiting class Sunday when C.J. Williams of California committed to the Irish.

The Mater Dei wide out chose the Irish over Alabama, Southern California, Stanford, and Texas. The 6-foot-2, 193-pound Williams the highest-rated offensive prospect in the Irish’s class at No. 86 in the country, and No. 11 at his position, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Williams is the 21st commit for Notre Dame’s 2022 class, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation behind only Penn State.

Williams’ commitment comes only days after four-star wide receiver Tobias Merriweather also made his pledge to the Irish. Merriweather picked Notre Dame over Michigan, Oregon, USC and Washington.

247Sports Scouting Analysis on Williams

Smooth pass catcher who can line up at any of the receiver positions. Very athletic frame with plenty of room to add good weight and strength. Gets off the line well and shows the short area quickness to separate. Not a burner but runs well enough to be a deep threat and get behind a defense and can also make a play after the catch. Advanced route runner who is smart and understands how to set up a corner, when to settle in to a zone and doesn’t run himself out of being open. Natural pass catcher with good jump ball skills. Does a nice job winning 50-50 balls but can continue to improve strength and catching the ball through contact. Shows a nice upside and projects as a impact upper tier Power 5 starter and potential high round NFL draft pick.

247Sports Scouting Analysis on Merriweather

Merriweather is a lengthy receiver with optimal height and range, with a large catch radius, soft hands that can pluck passes from all angles and glides when in the open field. He’s smooth in his routes and in and out of his breaks, adjusts well to throws and flashes great body control. Has tended to stay on the slighter side throughout his prep career so will need to continue to get stronger and add weight to avoid being pressed. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter and projects as second day pick.
