The team announced that 27-year-old defenseman Cliff Watson signed an AHL contract that runs through the 2021-22 season.
Watson played in eight games for the IceHogs last season and registered a point, but he spent a large chunk of his campaign serving as captain of the Indy Fuel. The Wisconsin native played in 45 games with the ECHL club, adding one goal and 16 helpers for a total of 17 points.
In a press release, IceHogs head coach Derek King expressed his excitement for Watson’s return. He explained that having a player like Watson along with other veterans such as team captain Garrett Mitchell and Dmitri Osipov really helps the young players learn how to play the game the right way.
The IceHogs plan to announce another player signing on Thursday, August 12.
