Bears Training Camp Update – August 12, 2021

Bears training camp on Thursday was highlighted by injuries, a few fights, and Justin Fields looking brilliant during Thursday’s joint practice.

Justin Fields Looks Like the 4th of July!

This is the kind of report Chicago Bears fans wanted to see. Until today, the reports coming out have all indicated that Andy Dalton was the more consistent quarterback and ran the offense like a pro. Justin Fields made wow throws in between moments of digesting the offense. The Bears haven’t been able to capitalize on red zone drives in the last two years and now it looks like the “QB competition” has officially opened. If Justin Fields comes out for Saturday’s preseason game and lights it up, Matt Nagy and co. will be forced to look at the starting role through a different lens.

Adam Shaheen Attacked by Bear

Adam Shaheen is the only one of Ryan Pace’s second rounders that has shown zero promise in the NFL. Funny enough, he shined brightest when he wasn’t wearing pads, and he was rarely healthy during the regular season. Khalil Mack was a weird guy to pick a fight with for Adam Shaheen. You’d figure he wanted to make it into the regular season healthy. How lucky is Adam Shaheen that there were people around to save him? I think we all know if Khalil Mack and Adam Shaheen were to get in a ring together the line would be Mack -5000.

It looks like that wasn’t the only skirmish between a tight end and defender today either. Only this time it was Bears tight end Cole Kmet getting a nice lick from Dolphins safety Eric Rowe. The Athletic’s Adam Jahns said Kmet went “airborne” and got back up in Rowe’s face. It looks like the no fighting rule was more of a suggestion than guideline during the Dolphins-Bears joint practice.

Another O-Lineman Bites the Dust

The state of the Bears Offensive line is already in question, they don’t need lose anyone else. Unfortunately, today Alex Bars limped off the practice field. The severity of the injury hasn’t been disclosed, but the Bears can’t afford to lose a guy like Bars right now. He has played almost every spot on the offensive line and might need to take a lot of snaps this year. Well, thats if he’s healthy.
