During one of the more highly anticipated nights of wrestling in recent memory, Christian Cage pulled off the seemingly impossible.

Over the course of the last few weeks, an unexpected feud has been building in the world of All Elite Wrestling. Christian Cage had made his presence known in the ring and on the show by going 7-0 since joining the company. By doing so, this put Cage at the top of the contenders food chain in AEW. In a few short and sweet promos, Christian Cage let it be known that he wanted to face Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship.

After weeks of confrontations, it was finally announced this past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite that Cage would face Omega for the AEW World Championship at ALL OUT in Chicago on September 5. However, the crowd, the audience at home, and Kenny Omega were all slapped with a surprise. Christian Cage announced that Omega would have to defend another belt from his collection live on Friday the 13th on the inaugural episode of AEW Rampage. ‘The Belt Collector’ had to defend the Impact World Championship against none other than Christian Cage.

As soon as Rampage came on the air Friday night, it was apparent this match would open the show. And holy hell did it deliver. Christian Cage was hot right from jump street while Omega tried to end the affair early by delivering a One-Winged Angel, which Cage tried countering into a Killswitch. Stalemate.

After a fantastic back and forth throughout the match, you could feel the end coming. Kenny Omega delivered a few V-Triggers, signaling the end. Christian Cage, ever the resilient fighter, continued to kick out of numerous pinning attempts. This prompted a flurry of nefarious tactics starting with a Don Callis distraction on the apron, allowing Omega to deliver a low blow on Cage. Omega signaled for the Jackson’s to come to the ring in which they delivered the Champion a chair for a swift ending to the match. Christian Cage had another idea.

After such a beautiful match to christen a new era in professional wrestling, there’s no way that such an awesome result can be topped. These two men go head-to-head once more in just over three weeks. Will we be saying #ANDNEW once again for Christian Cage? Or will Kenny Omega keep his firm grasp on the most prestigious belt of them all, the AEW World Championship? It all goes down September 5 at ALL OUT, right here in Chicago.
