Ever since Devin Hester‘s retirement fans have always debated: Does he belong in the Hall of Fame? Now the time is finally here for Canton to make a decision. Hester’s first year of eligibility for a Hall of Fame nomination is this year. He is joined by a star studded group, including Demarcus Ware and Steve Smith Sr.
The debate for Hester to be a member of the Hall of Fame has always been a tough argument. He was known for being a great kick returner, but when he was a wide receiver he was marginal at best. However, again, as a kick returner he is the record holder for kick return touchdowns (19), punt return touchdowns (14), and total return touchdowns (20).
While he may not get in on the first ballot, Hester should earn strong consideration to be immortalized in Canton. He is deemed the best kick returner of all-time. Teams had to plan how to kick away from him. He also had the rules changed on kickoffs because of his dominance.
