The Chicago Cubs close out a quick six-game road trip with a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds starting Monday at Great American Ball Park.
The Cubs’ (52-68, fourth in NL Central) losing streak hit 11 games after they were swept in a three-game series by the Miami Marlins, who started the series in last place in the NL East. Chicago’s 11-game skid (dating back to Aug. 5) matches a season-high from June 25 to July 6. The Cubs are now tied with the Marlins for the seventh-worst record in MLB and are a game ahead of the Washington Nationals.
The Reds (64-55, second in NL Central) have won three of their past four games to finish 3-3 on their six-game road trip against the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. Cincinnati returns home to start a seven-game homestand. The Reds are making ground in the NL Wild Card race, trailing the San Diego Padres by 2.5 games.
The Cubs are 4-9 against the Reds this season, including a 1-5 mark in Cincinnati.
