Sasha Pastujov won’t play hockey for Notre Dame after he signed an OHL Standard Player Agreement with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League on Thursday.

The forward committed to the Fighting Irish in 2018, which raised some eyebrows since his older brothers Nick and Michael Pastujov played at rival Michigan. Sasha, the top-rated player from Notre Dame’s class, was expected to enroll this fall. He scored 30 goals and 65 points in 42 games for the United States National Team Development Program this past season. He also led Team USA in scoring at the 2021 IIHF under-18 World Championships with five goals and eight points in five games.

“Sasha is an outstanding young player with a dynamic skillset who will contribute in all situations for our hockey club,” said Guelph GM and head coach George Burnett in a release. “We are thrilled that he and his family have made the decision to commit to the Guelph Storm.”

Guelph held Pastujov’s OHL rights after selecting him in the 14th round of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Selected in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, he signed with the Ducks earlier this month.
