As reported by Bruce Levine this afternoon, RHP Jake Jewell will serve as the Cubs‘ 27th man for the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
At Triple-A Iowa this season, Jewell has been rather sensational. He carries a 2-1 record with a sparkling 2.78 ERA. In addition, Jewell has struck out 35 batters and only walked 13 over the course of 32.1 innings in 23 appearances. He also has two holds and four saves with the Iowa Cubs.
At the MLB level however, Jewell has not fared as well. He is 0-1 with a 8.00 ERA in 9.0 innings of work. He has 10 strikeouts and four walks in nine appearances with the Cubs.
The Cubs can sweep the Rockies with a win in Game Two of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Justin Steele is on the mound for the Cubs beginning at 5:30 p.m. CDT.
