As the Chicago Cubs get set to take on their crosstown rivals, the Chicago White Sox, their scheduled starting second baseman limped off the field with an apparent leg injury. David Bote was seen jogging towards home during batting practice when he sustained the injury. Jordan Bastian confirmed the injury is a right ankle sprain.

Being this close to first pitch and without time to call someone up from the minors, the Cubs will likely be shorthanded in terms of position players off the bench. My guess is Sergio Alcantara will replace Bote in tonight’s lineup.

Bote already missed nearly two months of action earlier this season due to a dislocated shoulder. Having a rough year, hitting only .202 with eight home runs an a .609 OPS, Bote would like to finish the season strong. Let’s hope it’s not too serious. More on his injury later.

As for the game tonight, the Cubs get set to take on the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. CDT. Keegan Thompson will take the bump for the Cubs and square off against the veteran lefty Dallas Keuchel.
