The three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks joined Vermont’s men’s hockey coaching staff as an advisor, Vermont announced Tuesday.

Sharp scored 53 points in 65 games for Vermont from 2000-02. Selected in the third round in the 2001 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, Sharp turned pro after his sophomore season with the Catamounts. He won the Calder Cup with the Philadelphia Phantoms in 2005 before Chicago acquired him and Eric Meloche for Matt Ellison and a 2006 third-round pick the following season. Sharp served as an assistant captain (2007-15) and played a key role in Chicago’s three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

Sharp scored at least 30 goals four times and at least 20 goals eight times in 15 NHL seasons with the Flyers, Blackhawks, and Dallas Stars. He scored 287 goals and 620 points in 939 games during his NHL career. The 2011 NHL All-Star Game MVP also won gold with Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Following his retirement in 2018, Sharp started a broadcasting career working as a studio analyst for NBC Sports Chicago and NHL on NBC.

Vermont head coach Todd Woodcroft on Sharp:

“Not much needs to be said about Patrick that isn’t already known about his career – but what strikes me is that he chose to join our staff in an advisory role and has jumped in with high energy. He knows that his own personal experience, his own journey as a player who wore the same jersey that our current players do is a connection that none of the other men’s ice hockey staff can attest to. We are thankful that Patrick will be able to lend his voice and his thoughts on how we can continue to improve daily.”
