The Chicago Cubs have activated pitchers Adbert Alzolay and Dillon Maples from the 10-day injured list. The active roster stands at 28 players.

The move allows Alzolay to get some much-needed time back on the bump during the last month of the season. He currently sports a 5.16 ERA in 106.1 innings pitched with 107 strikeouts. The right-hander has endured ups and downs all season but has shown flashes of elite ability as a starter in a top-three rotation spot at times.

Maples enters a bullpen that simply needs help eating innings. Throughout his career, Maples has shown he has the stuff to serve in a backend bullpen role, but he hasn’t been able to channel it into production in high-leverage spots. He sports a 2.28 ERA in 27.2 innings for the Cubs this season. This might be his final chance to prove to the Cubs he has a future with the team.
