The Chicago White Sox had one busy morning. The team recently announced six roster moves that will take place before the White Sox take on the Pirates tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field.
All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson is heading to the 10-day IL. Anderson has been battling “tired legs”, which has now turned into a left hamstring strain. On the year, Anderson is slashing .302/.331/.458 with stolen 17 bases, 14 home runs, 53 RBIs.
Matt Foster has been recalled from Charlotte. The right-handed pitcher makes his return to the 35th and Shields after having a down year from what fans saw in 2020. In 33.1 innings this season for the White Sox, Foster has a 5.67 ERA, he’s let up 36 hits and 22 runs, 21 of which were earned.
The White Sox also designated utility man Jake Lamb for assignment. Lamb appeared in 43 games for the White Sox this year and posted a slash line of .212/.321/.389. He hit six home runs and drove in 13 runs in 131 plate appearances.
The White Sox recalled left-handed hitter Gavin Sheets. Sheets had his first taste of the big leagues in July and that stint lasted until the beginning of August. He slashed .225/.293/.483 and hit six home runs with 16 RBIs in 99 plate appearances for the club.
Romy Gonzalez will be experiencing his first cup of coffee at the Major League level starting today. The right-handed hitter has made quite a bit of noise in the White Sox minor league system this season. Gonzalez has spent time in Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. Gonzalez’s slash line through those two systems is .275/.357/.525. He has hit 23 home runs and has 57 RBIs.
