Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article indicated Scotty Bowman was part of the Blackhawks’ front office departures. Per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Blackhawks clarified that the omission of Bowman’s name from the team’s front office directory was accidental. This article has been updated to reflect that clarification.
According to numerous reports, several key members of the Blackhawks organization are no longer with the team. Per the reports, Jay Blunk, Pete Hassen, Maria Sutera, James Gary, and Barry Smith are all no longer with the Blackhawks.
The moves seem to be very random and out of the blue. As noted in Ben Pope’s tweet, all of these individuals were high-ranking members of the Blackhawks organization. The purpose of their terminations/voluntary exits is still uncertain.
All these moves were made in complete silence within the walls of the Blackhawks’ offices. That said, there is no indication if more moves will be made. These moves may simply be a change in direction. However, there is a chance that it’s bigger than that. Per The Athletic, these moves truly appear to be a change in leadership direction.
