Per Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago, Cubs’ president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer and manager David Ross have both tested positive for COVID-19. Both are fully vaccinated and are reportedly feeling well.
In wake of the news, both will have to be away for the team in accordance with COVID-19 protocols. During Ross’s absence, bench coach Andy Green will manage the team.
With both men feeling well, the absences for Hoyer and Ross should not be long. In the meantime, the Cubs will look to continue their three-game winning streak on Friday in the second contest of a four-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs came back from down 3-0 against the Pirates on Thursday to win in extra innings.
Friday’s game is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CDT at Wrigley Field. Alec Mills gets the start for the Cubs against Steven Brault.
