Ahead of a Saturday night game in Kansas City, several updates regarding the Chicago White Sox came to light.
Romy Gonzalez: Leadoff Man
First, manager Tony La Russa submitted the South Siders’ lineup and tabbed recent call-up Romy Gonzalez to lead off and play third base.
Gonzalez made his MLB debut on Friday night when he pinch-hit for Cesar Hernandez in the seventh inning and remained in the game at second base. The 24-year-old infielder struck out in his first MLB at-bat and grounded out to end the game in his second trip to the plate.
Gonzalez owns a .275/.357/.525 slash line with 23 home runs, 57 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases in 87 games between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte in 2021. With left-hander Daniel Lynch on the mound for the Royals tonight, the right-handed-hitting Gonzalez will have a prime opportunity to show off the pop that resulted in his call up to the big leagues.
Jimmy Lambert: Likely Spot Starter
Furthermore, right-handed pitcher Jimmy Lambert was spotted walking onto the field at Kauffman Stadium to get some work in before tonight’s contest, according to James Fegan of The Athletic.
Lambert is not on the active roster currently, but it’s reasonable to expect the White Sox will recall him in the coming days in the wake of Lucas Giolito heading to the injured list. Lambert owns a 3-3 record and 4.98 ERA in 18 starts for the Charlotte Knights this season. He has also appeared in three games for the White Sox with two of them being spot starts.
Adam Engel: On The Mend
Finally, outfielder Adam Engel participated in some running drills this afternoon. Engel landed on the injured list on August 16 (retroactive to August 13) due to left shoulder inflammation.
In addition to the shoulder ailment, Engel has been dealing with lower-body issues all year. A strained right hamstring forced Engel to the injured list on two separate occasions earlier in the season and he exited early from the Field of Dreams game — his most recent contest for the White Sox — due to right groin tightness.
Nevertheless, Engel is on the comeback trail and the White Sox expect him to begin a rehab assignment in the near future.
