The Chicago White Sox have been hit with the injury bug all season long, and September hasn’t been any different.

Not long after the starting rotation saw Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn hit the injured list, manager Tony La Russa spoke to the media about another one of his most effective pitchers in Carlos Rodon struggling to get back near 100%.

La Russa explained that Rodon is dealing with fatigue and soreness that may deter him from starting upcoming games for the White Sox. The hope is that Rodon can toe the rubber against the Boston Red Sox next weekend after a West Coast trip to Oakland.

The former NC State hurler is having quite the year, highlighted by a no-hitter, dominant performances, and an All-Star nod. Rodon sports a 2.41 ERA with 168 strikeouts over 119.2 innings pitched. This all comes after getting non-tendered by the White Sox last offseason.

Rodon has battled injuries in the past, and fatigue has impacted the second half of his 2021 season. The White Sox goal is to head into the playoffs as healthy as possible, and being careful with the rotation while having a 10.5-game lead in the American League Central won’t do anything but set the team up as best as possible for October baseball.
