Chicago White Sox outfielder Adam Engel is officially on the comeback trail. The White Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights, announced that Engel will begin a rehab assignment tonight.
Engel, who has endured multiple ailments this season, landed on the injured list on August 16 (retroactive to August 13) due to left shoulder inflammation. In addition to the shoulder injury, Engel was also dealing with right groin tightness just before going on the shelf.
However, he has been ramping up baseball activities as of late and will finally return to game action tonight. The Charlotte Knights tabbed Engel to lead off and play right field for their Tuesday night contest against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Engel has a .248/.339/.505 slash line, seven home runs, and 18 RBIs — good for a 131 wRC+ — in 121 plate appearances across 33 games for the White Sox so far in 2021. If all goes well, the timing of this rehab assignment could end up working out ideally for Adam Engel and the White Sox as October baseball approaches.
