According to Baseball America’s top 100 MLB prospects list, Cubs’ No. 3 prospect Cristian Hernandez now ranks as the No. 100 prospect.
Referred to as “Baby A-Rod”, Hernandez is a high upside shortstop that the Cubs signed from the Dominican Republic. Per MLB.com, the Cubs believe he may have more upside than both Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres had when they were signed as international free agents in 2013.
In 35 games with the DSL (Dominican Summer League) Cubs Blue team, Hernandez is slashing .277/.389/.429 with four home runs and 18 RBIs. In addition, the 17-year-old has four doubles, a triple, and 15 stolen bases.
Before 2022, Hernandez, along with Brennen Davis and Brailyn Márquez, may be joined by other Cubs prospects on top-100 lists. The Cubs have an abundance of talent that is en route to the major leagues. Players such as Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ed Howard, Jordan Wicks, and Reginald Preciado have the ability to be on top-100 lists as soon as next year.
