Another day, another roster move for the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have placed outfielder Michael Hermosillo on the 10-day injured list with a left forearm strain.
In the Ottawa, IL native’s place, the team has recalled outfielder Nick Martini from Triple-A Iowa. Martini spent some time with the Cubs earlier this season due to other injuries on the roster.
Hermosillo was building on an impressive Triple-A season after his promotion to the Cubs. In 16 games with Chicago, Hermosillo is slashing .194/.237/.500 with two doubles, three home runs, and seven RBIs. The average doesn’t stand out, but Hermosillo has made some impactful plays for the Cubs since his promotion.
With Triple-A Iowa, Hermosillo slashed .306/.446/.592 with ten home runs and 29 RBIs.
As for Martini, he’s slashing .267/.387/.444 with Triple-A Iowa including 11 home runs and 40 RBIs. In a brief stint with Chicago earlier this season, Martini played in 12 games, slashing .083/.200/.083 with a lone RBI single.
The Cubs and Reds compete for a series win on Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. The Cubs will be off on Thursday before beginning a series with San Francisco this weekend.
