After the infamous trade that sent the former NL MVP to San Francisco, Kris Bryant returned to Wrigley Field for the first time on Friday. Bryant was greeted by a standing ovation and numerous cheers as he was thanked for his time in Chicago.

The 2016 World Series champion was visibly emotional during the tribute video that the Cubs prepared for him. In addition to the heartwarming video, the Cubs thanked Bryant with a 2016 flag that flies on the roof of Wrigley Field. Furthermore, he received his number with Chicago, No. 17, from the old scoreboard in centerfield.

In 833 games with the Cubs, the four-time All-Star slashed .279/.378/.508 with 160 home runs, 478 RBIs, and 564 runs scored. In his seven seasons, he also earned four trips to the All-Star game, as mentioned, an NL Rookie of the Year award, an NL MVP award, and the elusive World Series win in 2016.

There is optimism amongst the Cubs fan base that Bryant will return to Chicago this winter as a free agent. However, it’s uncertain if the former first-round pick will ever return to the Cubs during his playing career.
