Despite a tough year on the diamond, Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward is thriving off the field. In fact, he’s made such an impact that he’s been named the Cubs’ nominee for the Roberto Clemente award.
Per the MLB, “the Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.” Heyward is a shining example of that message.
Jason Heyward has helped organizations such as MASK (Mothers/Men Against Senseless Killings), the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the University of Chicago Medical Center, and more. The list and write up on his off the field endeavors can be found here. Jason Heyward’s off the field list of contributions looks like a resume because it is so full.
Heyward has made a massive impact on the city of Chicago and the nation through his work off the field. Yes, as a player fans desire more on the field. However, there is no denying the impact he has off the field and the amount of pride fans can have for one of their beloved Cubs.
