In an interview with Barstool Chicago on their podcast Red Line Radio, Kris Bryant said “Why would I ever not want to return to Chicago?”
Kris Bryant has been very vulnerable in his multiple interviews with Barstool Chicago, especially with the narrative that he wasn’t having fun playing baseball anymore. In this most recent interview Bryant even threw a shot at Jesse Rogers from ESPN Chicago who was the one that really ran with that quote.
Eddie from Red Line Radio asked Bryant if he would consider returning to Chicago after being traded to the San Francisco Giants at the July 30 trade deadline. Bryant said, “Why would I ever not want to return to Chicago?” He noted all of the great memories from his seven years with the Cubs, and that Chicago will always be home for him and his family. Most notably, Bryant said that in his phone call with Jed Hoyer after officially being traded, they both mentioned the interest in a Cubs reunion when Bryant becomes a free agent after the 2021 season.
While I don’t think KB will return to the Cubs, I am happy that both sides are leaving it open. This at least shows the relationship between the Cubs and one of their most decorated players isn’t ruined forever.
