The MLB has announced that Chicago White Sox Manager Tony La Russa and relief pitcher Mike Wright have each been suspended following their ejections stemming from Thursday afternoon’s ballgame. La Russa will receive a one game suspension, while Wright will receive 3.

In case you missed it, during the 9th inning of Thursday’s matinee, White Sox pitcher Mike Wright hit Shohei Ohtani in the leg. This came following a displayed lack of command in the first two pitches of the at bat.

Following Wright’s ejection, Tony La Russa had some choice words for the umpiring crew that led to his eventual tossing. During an interview prior to Saturday’s game, La Russa continued to state his case.

He may have one. Per Christopher Kamka of NBC Sports, the White Sox do in fact have hit fewer batters than any team all year. It’s also worth noting that other star players took a few balls inside this series that didn’t lead to any ejections or suspensions.

Tony La Russa will serve his suspension during Saturday nights ballgame. Bench coach Miguel Cairo will manage the team in his absence. The White Sox are 1-0 under Cairo this season. He served in La Russa’s absence during the Field of Dreams game in August.
