According to Ian Rapoport, Andy Dalton‘s MRI revealed a bone bruise in his knee. Considering the injury looked very serious on Sunday, a bone bruise is a phenomenal outcome for the Bears’ quarterback.
As indicated through Rapoport’s tweets, bone bruises are still very serious injuries. Matt Nagy clarified via the Bears PR team today that when healthy, Dalton is the starting quarterback. However, there has been no indication to this point on whether or not Dalton is healthy enough to play. If he is not healthy enough to play, Justin Fields will make his first start against the Browns on Sunday.
In Sunday’s win, neither quarterback looked dominant. That said, each player had moments and if not for some mistakes on offense, both quarterbacks’ stat lines might have looked better. If Fields is able to get reps with the starters in practice this week, he should look better in game action, even against Cleveland.
Fans won’t know who the starting quarterback is just yet, but Dalton’s bone bruise certainly favors the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft making his first career start.
