During his Monday morning press conference, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy sidestepped a question regarding Andy Dalton’s status as the team’s starting quarterback when he’s healthy. But that wasn’t the worst part of it. The entire encounter with the reporter was awkward as Nagy gave an answer that made no sense.
Moments after the press conference ended, a member of the Bears PR team came back and conveyed a message from the fourth-year head coach. Per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, here is how the entire ordeal unfolded:
Despite the peculiar nature of its delivery, the message was clear. Andy Dalton will be the Bears’ starting QB when he’s fully healed and ready to go.
Dalton suffered a knee injury late in the first half of the Bears 20-17 victory over the Bengals on Sunday. At this point, it seems the injury is minor in nature. However, the official word is that the team is still awaiting the results of Dalton’s MRI. The situation should gain more clarity when the Bears’ Week 3 injury report comes out on Wednesday.
