The Chicago White Sox will likely get a key piece of their outfield back on Tuesday.

Upon meeting with the media ahead of Monday’s series opener in Detroit, Sox skipper Tony La Russa said the club expects to activate Adam Engel from the injured list before the second contest of a three-game set against the Tigers.

Engel went to the injured list on August 16 (retroactive to August 13) due to left shoulder inflammation. The speedy outfielder was also dealing with right groin tightness just before going on the shelf. Engel has been working his way back for several weeks now and he began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on September 7.

In 121 plate appearances across 33 games this season, Engel owns a .248/.339/.505 slash line, seven home runs, and 18 RBIs, good for a 131 wRC+. Hamstring ailments kept Engel sidelined for large stretches during the first half of the season, but his valuable production across a limited sample size exemplifies how important he is to the White Sox.

With Andrew Vaughn still on the injured list with lower back inflammation, Adam Engel should see ample opportunities to knock the rust off in the final weeks of the regular season.
