Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine recently took part in an interview with ESPN. The All-Star guard discussed a plethora of topics with Brian Windhorst, one of them being contract negotiations with the Bulls. LaVine says he and the team entered discussions before free agency but an extension did not come to fruition.

LaVine is entering the final year of his current contract. He is slated to make $19.5 million in 2021-22. LaVine hasn’t been soft-spoken about outplaying his current contract either. Back in August, LaVine said he wanted his “respect” while he and the Bulls worked on a new deal.

“I just want my respect. I think that’s the main thing. I outplayed my [current] contract, I’ve been very loyal to Chicago, I like Chicago. I just want my respect. If it’s now, later, it’s something that we gotta work out internally and we’ll go from there,” LaVine told reporters during a Summer Olympics virtual media session.

With the most talent LaVine has ever played alongside on the currently constructed Bulls roster, he has the chance to ascend into superstardom. LaVine is looking to make the most money he possibly can, and who can blame him? The 26-year-old has improved in every offensive category since arriving in Chicago. If LaVine happens to make an All-NBA team this year, he will be eligible for a “supermax” contract extension. The best bet for Zach LaVine is to bet on himself. If he and his new teammates can make the Bulls competitive again? Maybe the Bulls and LaVine will get what they want.
