Dallas Keuchel One Last Chance to Make White Sox Playoff Roster

Dallas Keuchel seems to be getting one last chance to prove he belongs on the White Sox playoff roster with a bullpen appearance scheduled for Saturday.

The Chicago White Sox are slated to play two more games before the regular season ends. Although rain may play a factor in Chicago over the weekend, White Sox Manager Tony La Russa would like to see these games played. The final two games could wind up meaning that the White Sox will have home-field advantage in the ALDS. That is if the White Sox win both of them and the Astros come up winless. More importantly, there are still some unanswered questions surrounding the White Sox playoff roster. One of the biggest questions remaining is what role will Dallas Keuchel play. If any at all.

The plan for Saturday, should the game be played is to see what the White Sox are able to get out of Dallas Keuchel in relief.

In a previous article written on this very website, White Sox contributor Steve Paradzinski laid out the importance of limiting opposing lineups from seeing too much Dallas Keuchel. It appears that if Kuechel is on the postseason roster this approach will be taken a step further.

Keuchel, in his last start, limited the same Detroit Tigers who are in town to finish the season to just 2 runs, while going 5 innings. He has not had the greatest of seasons on the Southside this year. He knows it too. In a press conference following his final start, he expressed his desire to be part of the postseason roster.

Final Chances

The left-hander seems to be getting one last chance to prove he belongs as the final roster begins to take shape. In his lone start against the Astros this season, his former ballclub, the lefty struggled mightily. His final line from that start: 2.2 IP, 7H, 6R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K.

Should Keuchel make the postseason roster, the White Sox will need a better showing from the lefty than the 2.2 IP we saw on that particular Sunday in June. No one wants the rain to hold off like Dallas Keuchel on Saturday.
